When my best friend Faith and I first moved to the Kansas City area, we knew that we wanted to find a good church. “Good” is relative though, right? Let me explain – We wanted to find a church where we were welcomed with open arms, a church where people made us feel loved and accepted, a church that believed whole heartedly in Jesus, what He did for us, and what we are, in turn, called to do for Him. We wanted to find a church that felt like home. And that’s exactly what we found with The Cause Church.
On Belleview Avenue, on the edge of the Country Club Plaza, stands a church that declares “Jesus Over Everything” day in and day out. The two lead pastors of The Cause are married with two kids and have dedicated their lives to living out the mission that The Cause proclaims. In the words of Pastors Kyle and Liz, “At The Cause Church, we are building a community of faith that is helping people live out the Mission of Jesus. At the heart of this mission is Jesus’ message – God’s great love for people. We graciously proclaim ‘Welcome Home’, together creating an atmosphere that lifts burdens and heals hearts.”
The culmination of biblical preaching, applicable messages, and high energy worship is a large part of what makes The Cause Church a great place to spend your Sunday mornings. One unique quality that The Cause has that a lot of churches don’t is the building that it’s in. This includes everything from the architectural design of the building to the incredible artwork that has been done inside. At the end of this post will be an image gallery if you’d like to get a little glimpse of what The Cause looks like on the inside.
If you’re in the process of looking for a church home or simply searching for somewhere to feel connected to a community, stop by The Cause Church (4646 Belleview Ave, Kansas City, MO 64112). We have services at 9:30am, 11am, 5pm, and 6:30pm and would love love love for you to pop in and worship with us.

I think people oftentimes stereotype the midwest as being “cows and cornfields” or “nothing but grasslands”. While that is true for some parts of the midwest, there is SO much more to the middle of the US states than stereotypical “midwest stuff”. Something that Kansas City is known for is its Crossroads Arts District. Here, there is various types of art ranging from pink angel wings painted on a white wall to cool textile windows.
You may be thinking, “So what? There’s some cool paintings, but what’s the point?!” Oh, let me tell you. The Arts District is the perfect place to go walk through on a nice day. It is one place that my boyfriend and I love to go to when the weather is nice just to walk around. It’s also near the plaza so it is one of the best places in KC for walking around and enjoying each other’s company.
Another fun thing about the Arts District relates to what I mentioned earlier about it being near the Plaza. The Plaza is an area that is filled to the brim with things to do. With the Arts District being a quick 7-10 minute walk from the Plaza, it’s easy to make an afternoon out of it! Grab a few friends or your significant other and hit the Plaza for a quick shopping trip, coffee, or a bite to eat then head on over to the Crossroads Arts District to fill you up with some creativity and inspiration.
“The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. What you’ll discover will be wonderful. What you’ll discover is yourself.” -Alan Alda
Located on 63rd and Oak Street in Kansas City, Missouri is the baby blue building known as Heirloom Bakery & Hearth. The cozy wood tables and cute little aloe plants combined with an aroma of espresso have a way of making you feel right at home as you sit in Heirloom.
Heirloom is a place that I love to go with friends if I’m needing a little escape from reality. My best friend Faith and I like to call it our “coffeeshop home”. You may laugh, but really…..it’s like a little home in the way that the staff treats you with such care and kindness and also in the way that it is decorated! BUT, with that being said, it’s a place that I refuse to take homework to. I love doing homework in coffee shops and bakeries, but Heirloom is a place that, when I think of it, I don’t want to think about doing all my homework, I want to think about good conversations, great company, and of course, a yummy latte along with a gluten-free, caramel drizzled brownie (or two)!
Among the many things that I love about Heirloom, the wide variety of the treats that they have is most definitely near the top of the list. Not only do they sell them, but they MAKE them! How cool is that?! Fresh, homemade treats of all kind. Everything from brownies and cookies to breads and poptarts – it doesn’t get much better than that!
So, next time you’re out and about, searching for the perfect spot to camp out at for an hour or so, pop on over to Heirloom. You are guaranteed to be greeted with a smile and to leave with a belly full of good coffee and yummy pastries.
